Hampshire Cup Semi-Final, Cove won 5-4 on penalties

After a hectic week, football gives me some great perspective by being the proud manager of Cove Youth, below is report from our website http://www.coveyouthfc.co.uk/

Salisbury City v Cove Youth U16
Hants Cup Semi Final 15 February 2009

Salisbury City 1 - Cove Youth 1
Cove won 5-4 on penalties

Cove battled hard to match a well organised and talented Salisbury team.
Both sides produced some good football before an electric burst and quality finish from Kristof Gyuge broke the deadlock to put Cove 1-0 up after 20 mins. Salisbury were unlucky not to equalise on the stroke of half time when the post saved Cove before Louis Martin gratefully grabbed. Salisbury worked hard in the second half but resolute defending kept them to very limited opportunities before they managed to draw level with a header after 65 mins. The game remained hard fought but ended at 1-1. Extra time saw chances at both ends but no further score to force penalties. The drama, intense already, become even greater with Cove going up 3-1 in penalties but then missed two to take it to sudden death. Both sides scored their first but the Cove keeper saved for the third time before Cove skipper, Josh Kipping, showed no nerves to smash the winner.
