Global Trade Management

YRCL EU designed a Global Trade Management (GTM) concept in 2006 with the aim to help clients improve their fiscal and physical supply chain. The idea was great as it talked about reaching all levels of clients not just the largest who can invest in expensive systems or resources to help with change. Unfortunately the delivery did not match the theory. Shame on us but it is better to realise this and correct than continue on the same path.

At the same time GTM was launched in the USA by Mr Paul Fitzpatrick. Paul has forgotten more about logistics, or you want to call it, than I will ever know (if you read this Paul I mean no reference to age I promise) and with his team he has found many areas to increase clients profits. Some of it by looking around corners to pre-empt new quota restrictions or duty rates being planned for 3 months time. Some of it by moving a process to origin to reduce expensive destination warehousing. Clients who have entered into a partnership plan with the GTM process have greatly benefited and I want to make sure we provide this in Europe. Getting the right staff to lead this will be key and I believe we now have those staff positioned. More information will be shared through publications and our sales teams in the near future.

Hi, Andy,

I am Simon Sun from TH Freight (China) Co., Ltd. I run my own freight forwarder company for more than 10 days. I have too much questions about global forwarding industry; which I can't get answers. That's the reason I am so excited when I read your blog. If you like, would you please kindly advice your mail address so that I can consult you often the confusion in my mind?

When we set up our oversea network 10 years ago, we have had some achievability since not so much people did it. As your blog, the communication is so significant during the cooperation each other. Sometimes I just feel at sea very much to face my partners. On the other hand, it is obviously the globalization mix all parties together with big different culture and background of think. How we can find a best way to do it better? We watch all Premier League at each weekend, we read news from BBC and watch BBC TV, we also travel often in EU as well we use western name, but when we work with European people including UK, we still find sometimes to hard. The idea often jumps out in mind to have some western staff in our company, who can deal better with western people directly. Do you think it is helpful and workable? Or is it worth to do it?

I am sorry to interrupt you with this mail and request. I can’t find your mail address in your Blog, so I can only use this way to send you this mail.

Thanks a lot.

Best regards.

Hi Simon, you are not interrupting me and I welcome any comments or feedback. I try to keep Blog feedback and communication only via the blog so that other people can also participate in any conversation. You question about different cultures and having western staff is an interesting one and I hope to expand on this in a future Blog, but please feel free to ask any question and hope to here from you soon.
